The Caspian Sea Monster is the first true diver's watch from Vostok-Europe and a leap forward in design and technology for Russian and Eastern European timepieces. The signature element is the use of tritium tube technology. This radio luminescent material provides unwavering visibility of the watch in any lighting conditions and is excellent for diving. Named for the Ekranoplan, or Caspian Sea Monster, the watch is inspired by the unusual "ground effect" vehicle built by Russia that carried enormous weight back and forth across the Caspian Sea on a cushion of air just 20 feet above the surface. The dial sports an image of the plane and the day-night indicator and 24-hour GMT readout are tied to the nautical and aviation theme of the watch. This true, numbered limited edition is constructed of all surgical grade stainless steel, is water resistant to 20 atmospheres and is hand assembled in Vilnius, Lithuania. Review : Amazing Example of Russian Watchmaking
I have been a Vostok fan for a number of years, but the Caspian Sea Monster is truly remarkable. The Tritium gas tubes are
incredibly bright; far more so than their Super Luminova coated dials, obviously, much different technology. Dial, case and
fit and finish are exceptional on this large (47mm) piece, but the incredibly soft and beautifully made silicone strap and stout
stainless buckle (which lies FLAT), fits even my small 6 1/2 inch writst, and retains the watch perfectly, with NO shifting.
The 32 jewel automatic movement which is nicely decorated is incredibly accurate, and out of the box, I find it to be running
plus or minus about 10 seconds per day.
Although it does NOT have a quick set date, the date function is easily though a bit slower to change, and is not a problem,
once you learn the methodology contained in the well written instruction manual.
All in all, this is a MUST HAVE for Russian watch fans, and those who desire the...
